How do you find out what is and isn’t allowed?
Status certificates will document and outline pet restrictions for each building. Each condo has a set of pet rules, restrictions and by-laws about pets. When you buy a condo, review this document!
Generally, the rules in newer buildings stipulate that pets must be ‘no animal, livestock, fowl, other than household domestic pets’ and outline the rules when pets are in common areas, like hallways, lobbies and party rooms or gyms in a building.
In some buildings there may be a restriction on the number of pets you can have (we’ve seen a restriction of not more than one dog and one cat per unit). We’ve also seen condo corporations change the rules and regulations regarding the number of pets permitted in a building and forced owners to adopt the changes or move out.
